Mission or Job scripts.

The idea of a job or a mission script would be a player walking up to a job board in any major city, where an NPC can put up different jobs.
This could be a delivery as there already is, or a collection job, so the job could be; “Go out and find 15 Red Raspberries and delivery them here” just as an example.
This could be with anything that is collectable within the game, such as pay dirt, Iron, any herbs or anything really. This could even be expanded to make more things collectable.
Could introduce a woodcutter script as well as a job.
This would give the “Casual” player something to do at all times, even veteran players could go out and do something every now and then. It would also be a nice way to introduce new players into the economy and teach them the mechanics of Ranch. Furthermore it would get people out of the towns and into the world. I think this kind of script would promote more RP than it would stump it. If a player gets a job that they don’t really know about or where to find, they’d have to talk with other people to figure it out. If it’s a mining job they’d have to talk to a blacksmith to get a pickaxe. You could also introduce products that are player-made.

So “Collect 2 Navy revolvers” or “Get 10 Horseshoes” and deliver them at x-spot. This would give the Gunsmith or blacksmith something to do, and the player would have to interact. I know it’s a balance act with the payout but I think it’s time to stop being so afraid of the grinders. Don’t let the few ruin it for the many.

Pros:

  • Players are more likely to go out in the world
  • Promotes interaction with other people
  • Gives something to do on low-pop hours
  • A nice introduction for new players
  • An expansive system that can be added to
  • Can in-corporate a lot different jobs into the economy
  • Gives criminals something to do (More people out on the road)

Cons:

  • Grinders
  • Difficult to balance
