Stricter vetting for the music records

I absolutely love the addition of the phonograph and I think it’s something I see has a lot of potential. However, nothing can be more easily immersion breaking than the music.

A few days back, I found myself walking around when I heard people playing Dancing Queen by Abba in a swing-like style. It clearly didn’t feel like something that would be out of the 1890s.

I know we can be vert strict on immersion breaking things, down to clothing and I’ve even seen some names being said to not be fully appropriate for the era. However, for me, music can be way more immersion breaking than both of those.

Whislt I fully agree that using recordings from the era would be extremely limiting and of poor quality, if at least the song existed back then or in the 10s or 20s, it would still be way more era appropriate than disco played in a swing-like style.

To play Devil’s Advocate, I don’t find non-era relevant music playing in an era relevant style to be immersion breaking. If the song isn’t referencing anything modern in its lyrics, it’s a game we play for fun. Suspend your disbelief long enough to consider, maybe that song COULD have been written in this version of history.

Yeh I dont agree with this if the lyrics are ok for the time and its in the proper style or a old time cover. All records currently IC are approved already and go through approval before they are sold IC so For that to be playing it was given the green light. We have period Drama tv shows with modern music redone to be period appropriate irl and the server is its own version of 1899.
